Event Details
The Ada Initiative is holding the very first "Ada Camp" in mid January in Melbourne. This is going to bring the brightest women in open technology to town - the perfect opportunity for a Girl Geek Dinner. Quality food in a gorgeous setting, we'll have the place to ourselves. There's going to be so many interesting women attending this - make sure you are too, to start your 2012 networking with a bang!
Our venue is the Merri Table & Bar at CERES Community Environment Park, a place so green and serene you will forget you are just 6km from the CBD. It's easy to get to via public transport too. (See the sitemap for the location of The Merri within the CERES park - it's quite near the main entrance on Stewart St.)
Our meal will follow the set menu with entree, main and dessert. Choose your preferred main when you purchase your ticket - you can specify any dietary requirements you have and we will make sure you are well catered for. The Merri Table & Bar is fully licensed and you can order your own drinks from their drinks menu.
Tickets are on sale until a week before the event, when we need to finalise the numbers with the venue. Anyone not paid in full by this date will not be able to attend. You can pay via Paypal account, credit card (via the Paypal website) or bank transfer (select "show other payment options" and click "Pay offline" for instructions here). The dinner costs $45 and the balance is Paypal/Eventbrite fees.
Venue accessibility: "There is a ramp to the Merri from the car park and all toilets are on ground level. The most suitable toilet for people in wheelchairs is in the building next to the Merri, which you can get to undercover."
Kids: If they need a meal please buy them a children's meal; if you are planning to feed them beforehand or they don't eat solids then buy them a free children's ticket. No highchairs are available, sorry, but you are welcome to bring anything you need.
As a standard Girl Geek Dinner, men may attend as the guest of a woman. All women geeks welcome, including those who don't work/play in "open tech". :) Wondering what constitutes open tech? See the Ada Initiative FAQ.
This particular event is being organised by Brianna Laugher, on behalf of GGD Melbourne.

Girl Geek Dinners Melbourne
GGD Melbourne is the Melbourne chapter of the global GGD movement. Join us on Meetup: http://www.meetup.com/Girl-Geek-Dinners-Melbourne/
The Girl Geek Dinners were founded on the 16th August 2005 as a result of one girl geek who got annoyed and frustrated about being one of the only females attending technical events. She was tired of being assumed to be marketing, tired of constantly having to prove herself and decided that she just wanted a change and to be treated just the same as any other geek out there, gender and age aside. After all to be geeky is to be intelligent, have passion for a subject and to know that subject in depth. It’s not at all about being better than others, or about gender, race, religion or anything else. Those things just detract from the real fun stuff, the technology, the innovation and the spread of new ideas.
London Girl Geek Dinners was the very first Girl Geek Dinner group to start out. There are now groups all over the world. The events have gone from strength to strength with diverse members and some amazing sponsors who have provided great venues and fantastic support! The focus of the events is about uniting, supporting, learning and having fun as a female in the technology industry.
All our events are run as not for profit and any funds left over are ploughed back into the group to provide the website, labels etc and sponsorship covers the cost of food and drinks as well as the venue hire where applicable.
